THE STORY OF KYTHERA
We named the firm after the Straits of Kythera for several reasons. Firstly, thought to be one of the most dangerous in the Mediterranean, these straits required the skill of experienced navigator. Furthermore, the straits were the transit route to travel between the Western Mediterranean and Istanbul and the Black Sea, the heart of Eastern Europe. We see this as a modern reminder of the linkages of the developed and emerging economies which will contribute significantly to global wealth and global GDP. Additionally, these straits were the site where the Antikythera Mechanism was found. It is this mechanism that inspired our trademark. The Mystery of the devise was only truly unraveled in Oct. 2016 by an international and multidisciplinary team which reminds us to rely on many disciplines and to draw from varied experiences to find the correct path.
THE STORY OF THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM
The research team working on the Antikythera Mechanism determined the devise was older than originally thought and dating its creation to between 150BC and 50BC. It is thought to be the oldest analogue astronomical computer known to man. It was found to be far more accurate than was though possible at that time. It could predict solar and lunar eclipses, the precise location of the sun the moon and the known planets Mars, Jupiter and Saturn at any date entered. It would be another 1,000 years before such computational rendition of the movements of the planets and the sun was understood and could be predicted. To us it reminds us to not be constrained by conventional thinking but also the need for a disciplined and analytical approach.
